At independence drawing inspiration from the promises made during
the national liberation struggle, many constitutional and legal provisons were made
for advancement of women. Political parties of various shades and women’s
organization  of different strands took issues to combat deprivation of women.
Consequently, during the post independence period equality  was codified and
mechanisms for its realization were institutionalized.
                            In Bihar women
formed more than one half of the total population. So progressive parties in 1970’s
made sporadic and uninterested effort to empower women. As  a result in 1974,
in order to educate the deprived women folk the gala opening of Govt. Women’s
